Fleming College has been named one of Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges according to rankings released yesterday by Research Infosource Inc.
Fleming ranked 11th in Ontario and 29th nationally on the list. The Office of Applied Research at Fleming College, which ranked 36th on last year’s list, had a 58% increase in its research income from the previous year, with a total of $1,933,852 in 2012-13. Colleges are ranked according to the amount of funding their research facilities attract.
“We’re exceptionally pleased to be ranked 29th this year nationally and 11th provincially,” said Director of Applied Research, Dr. Brent Wootton. “Fleming is fortunate to have a passionate and dedicated research team.”
The Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment (CAWT) at Fleming College fosters collaborative research partnerships with universities, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, and engages in opportunities to enhance student learning through applied research activities. As part of the Top 50 Research Colleges ranking, the Office of Applied Research and the CAWT placed 6th among mid-sized colleges in terms of the number of completed formal research projects with external organizations, completing more than 30 in 2012-13. Many of these projects help local businesses, industry, and institutions innovate in the water and wastewater sectors.
