The CAWT’s Dr. Gordon Balch is retiring this summer.
Gord has been a wonderful colleague and an integral part of the team at the CAWT and at Fleming College’s School of Environmental and Natural Resources Sciences (SENRS).
Gord started in 2009 in a temporary position as Research Scientist and Manager for the CAWT. In 2010 he transferred to a full-time role of Professor for SENRS and Research Scientist for the CAWT. His positive and collaborative approach was the foundation for the strong relationships he built with colleagues. His hard work, commitment and dedication were exemplary.
Gord’s long career in the CAWT has been nothing short of impressive. As a Research Scientist Gord has collaborated and led countless projects with industry partners and government officials within Ontario, in the Arctic, across Canada, and abroad. His professionalism, hard work and expertise led to various appointments, including as an adjunct Professor at Trent University, where he served as a co-collaborator and a committee member. From aquatic life to wastewater treatment, Gord’s knowledge is well rounded and vast. His professional accomplishments are equally matched by his compassion, kindness, and grace. To most of us, despite his impressive titles, Gord has always been a mentor and a friend. Gord has been instrumental to the team, and to say he will be missed is certainly an understatement.
We wish Gord the best as he heads into his retirement and thank him for all of his contributions to the CAWT over the last ten years.
